POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION TITLE:         Director

SUMMARY: 

The Enterprise Development Group (EDG) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c) (3) headquartered in Arlington, VA, serving the Washington, DC metro area. It is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and a Small Business Administration (SBA) Intermediary Lender. EDG maintains various programs that provide micro-lending, asset building, ESL, financial literacy and homeowner training services to low-to-moderate income persons. EDG’s mission is to promote opportunities for self-sufficiency to low-to-moderate income people residing in the Washington, DC, metro area through sustainable economic and community development initiatives

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Director of EDG will provide leadership in the development of a conceptual and practical framework that encourages an organizational culture that is entrepreneurial, development-minded, and results and outcomes oriented.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of EDG reports to the President of ECDC/EDG and is responsible for planning and implementing the design and integration of a myriad of economic development programs and investment services. The Director of EDG is expected to manage a team of business, financial and asset development professionals to achieve community economic impact.

This permanent, full time position requires a candidate with a resource development and market orientation background that encompasses maintenance of current revenue streams and acquisition of revenues through new lines of business including planning and execution of fee-based services such as tax and accounting preparation services, consumer financing, business to business sales, real estate development, and so on.

The candidate will promote and enhance the presence and reputation of the organization as a nationally recognized leader in the economic development field and help staff collaborate and generate outside acknowl edgement and support for their work. The Director must also spend a large portion of his/her time seeking program funding from foundations, government agencies, other businesses, and private donors.

  • Development: Maintain current revenue streams, develop new revenue streams, and develop income producing business products and services. (35% of time)
  • Marketing and Public Relations: Advance and enhance knowledge of and reputation of the organization among a national network of colleagues, agencies, organizations and funding institutions of economic development programs and initiatives. Contribute to the overall strategic marketing, branding and market penetration of the organization. (20% of time)
  • Management Team Participation: Assist the president and management staff in attaining the community development aspirations of the organization, reach the goals and objectives outlined in the organization’s strategic plans, and facilitate communication and collaborative efforts among EDG and ECDC. (20% of time)
  • Project Management: Help staff focus on and attain outcomes that have measurable community economic impacts; assure that the organization is in compliance with contracts and grants; create and maintain good staff morale and efficient and productive work environment; monitor and implement necessary systems and technology changes to facilitate high productivity and wise utilization of human resources. (15% of time)
  • Budget and Finance: Manage an operation with myriad sources of revenue and an equal number of financial reporting and compliance requirements; plan and develop budgets that anticipate and include opportunity costs; strictly adhere to budgets. (10% of time)

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Director will be an excellent communicator, an accomplished presenter and public speaker, and a compassionate but strong leader. S/he should have exceptional oral and written communication skills. In addition, the Director should have strong organizational and administrative skills; the ability to plan and achieve goals and objectives is critical.

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years management and development experience in economic development, business development, public policy formulation or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher as well as excellent keyboarding skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups and agencies.
  • Possesses strong initiative and a proactive work style.
  • Must be legally eligible for employment in the U.S.
