The Enterprise Development Group (EDG) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. EDG is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and an SBA Intermediary Lender and receives funding support from local, state, and federal government agencies as well as private sector institutions. EDG’s mission is to promote opportunities for self-sufficiency to low-to-moderate income people residing in the Washington, DC, metro area through sustainable economic and community development initiatives.
Job Summary
The Program Director is responsible for the planning; coordination; day-to-day operations; asset, resource, and strategic partnership development and marketing; and oversight of a wide range of small business, lending, home ownership, asset development, and educational services provided by the EDG.
Key Responsibilities
Guided by the organization’s mission and values and in close working relationship with ECDC, the EDG Program Director serves as a strategic partner in the management of current programs and the development of long-term initiatives.
Under the guidance and leadership of the President, the Program Director is responsible for:
Administrative/Project Management : Provides administrative, program and policy guidance; develops annual goals and objectives; directs priorities to meet EDG’s strategic plan; creates and maintains staff morale as well as efficient and collaborative work environment; develops and implements procedures and systems to enhance productivity and program effectiveness; works with the Loan Review Committee; and represents EDG at meetings, workshops, and conferences. (35% of time)
Development : Maintains current revenue streams, generates new revenue sources, and develops income producing business products and services; and prepares project proposals for submission to public and private sector funders. (30% of time)
Marketing and Public Relations : Serves as lead staff in developing and promoting EDG’s marketing, branding and market penetration strategies. Advances and enhances knowledge and reputation of the EDG among local, national, and regional networks of agencies as well as institutions that fund economic development programs and initiatives. (25% of time)
Budget and Finance: Assists in developing agency and program budgets and monitors budget revenue and expenditures.
Supervision Exercised
Provides general and direct supervision to program staff. Provides input for the evaluation of staff.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Leading candidates must be able to identify, negotiate, and manage relationships with partners that complement EDG’s vision and short- and long-term goals.
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years management and marketing/fund-raising experience in economic development, business development, lending/financial counseling, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
Budget development and management experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Fully conversant with MS Word, Excel, and Access.
Initiative and a proactive work style along with the ability to work in a team environment.
Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple assignments and simultaneous priorities under pressure.
Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, occasionally under time constraints.
Ability to exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
Ability to relate professionally to and collaborate with diverse individuals in a multicultural environment.
Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Contact with Others
Position involves daily verbal and written contact at a significant level with EDG staff, clients, and representatives of public and private sector agencies and financial institutions.
Performance Criteria
